Prices vary depending on who's event it is. I'm an instructor for Hooked On Driving, the Official Driving School of Thunderhill. It's $285 for the day with an instructor (coach) in the car with you all day in the A Group. B Group, instructors are optional after the first session. Price includes lunch and demo rides.

I really want to get some track time in before I leave the states again. I have never been on a real track. How do I get in on the open track days? Which ones are better for novices?

I've only run with NASA. There is an event this weekend.

http://www.nasanorcal.com/

They run a good program. The entry group will start you off with an instructor, they start you off slow and make sure you are smooth and aware of what's going on around you. Its a bit intimidating until you're done with your first session. Then when you survive you'll start having some fun. Don't drive harder than you're comfortable with. You'll need to get your car instpected, make sure your car is in good working order and have good brakes and tires. There is also an faq at the site^^^ that will help clear up anything I've missed.

Also an event with a lot of subies. http://www.eqtuning.com/ there will be different run groups for biginers and advanced drivers.

So look. Eq is probably the closest you'll get unless you rent the track out by yourself. You asked I gave my best answer. If you find an honest "open track day", let us know about it.

wow. I'm just saying I'm more interested in open track days. I apologize if something in that sentence offended you.

There is information for every track around here in the first posts. Hope you find what you are looking for. Fyi, open "test days" are for licensed racers.

Hi STI33W,

It's important to realize that most people who've never been on a real track need some instruction before they're let loose on their own. Many drivers will eventually learn "the line" on their own but having an instructor will expedite the process and the learning curve will improve substantially and you will start having a lot more fun sooner.

An "open track" is only for the most experienced and self-disciplined drivers. Hooked On Driving has an excellent program for first timers. Also Thunderhill is the best venue around for first timers because it's a wide open track without a lot of visual distractions. Drivers can really focus on learning the track. Infineon, for example, is a much more technical track with a lot more infrastructure around the track and can be more challenging for begginers.

Hope this helps!
